Event photography was something I had done once or twice before doing it in my internship. When I first started, this was a skill that I had not perfected and one that I really needed to work on. I began by assisting the main photographer whenever there was an event. This included, packing camera bags with all of the proper equipment, lenses, extra batteries, flashes, etc. At first, I was not sure exactly what to put in the bag, but quickly caught on and the process got a lot faster. While assisting the main photographer, I would run back to the studio if we forgot anything, had a back up camera to practice shooting candids and shadowed him to learn the process faster. By observing the photographer I learned exactly what to do and what to be prepared for.

When the photographer finally thought that I was ready and prepared enough, he began by allowing me to become the main photographer while he sat back and watched me, while also assisting me if I needed help. At first I was extremely nervous, I was afraid I was going to mess something up and was afraid to really get close to people because I thought I was getting in their way. Having the main photographer right there really helped calm my nerves because I knew if something went wrong, he would be there to help. After doing this a few times I then started doing the events on my own without any help. This really helped me become more confident in my work and it slowly became easier to socialize with people and know exactly where to stand and how to get the best pictures. Doing this has really helped me perfect this skill that I hope to use in my career. Event photography has become fun for me, and editing the photos after the event, to see the final product, is something I look forward to. Below, I have showcased some of the major events I have taken photos at. The pinning ceremony and the Spruance legacy visit were two events that I was the main photographer. The March graduation was one of the events I was assisting and taking some candids at.
